Instead of just blindly going to the cleaning section of your supermarket when you run out of one of the myriad of toxic cleaning products you use, consider this age-old money saving tip.
Just buy a bottle of white vinegar. Pour it into your old cleaning product bottle, one part water, one part vinegar. Voila! A natural, non-toxic cleaner to use around the house.
Try cleaning the toilet by pouring a couple of cups into the bowl and scrubbing it with a brush in the morning. Baking soda poured down a blocked drain followed by some vinegar works a treat.
Not only is it miles cheaper, it is good for the environment and your body can handle it if it gets down your gullet.
Try this washing liquid recipe:
1 soap bar 1 cup of washing soda 1/2 cup of borax
Grate the soap into a pan and cover with hot water and stir it over a medium heat until it's all melted, stirring it occasionally
Pour the soapy water into a 18 liter/5 gallon bucket
Add the washing soda and borax
Fill the bucket with hot water and stir
Voila. Make sure you keep it out of reach of children and animals – preferably re-use your old washing liquid containers. Use a cup for each load and save a fortune!
